Lost Creek Forest Tours and Events

Walking in Lost Creek Forest is like stepping back into past centuries. Experience the cool and quiet of an old forest. See beautiful beech, oaks, magnolia, and spruce pine trees towering in the high canopy. Listen to the birds up there. It takes two adults to reach around some of the oaks, with their circumference of ten feet.

Bring your children and grandchildren to see and experience this, their natural heritage. Youngsters can imagine they are Yamacraw Indians, who hunted here in the 1700's and lived nearby.

Dr. Bill Bates of the Albany Audubon Society and Albany’s Greenspace Commission said, “We would give anything to be able to buy such a forest, and your community already has it.”

This is a place you can see the endangered Florida milkvine, now stretching into its Spring growth. According to Dr. Tom Patrick, botanist with the GA DNR, “Lost Creek Forest has Georgia’s largest known population of Florida Milkvine, an extremely rare, imperiled species known from fewer than 25 populations in only two states: Florida and Georgia. It appears to be one of the most vigorous stands of the species.”
